BIS Corner and Student Chapter Launched at MNNIT in Prayagraj
On October 3, 2023, a significant educational initiative was launched at the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) in Prayagraj. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) inaugurated both a BIS Corner and a BIS Student Chapter at the institute, aimed at enhancing the quality of education and research in the region. This initiative stems from a memorandum of understanding signed between BIS and MNNIT.
Resource Center to Enhance Academic Standards
The newly established BIS Corner, located within the institute’s Central Library, serves as a dedicated resource center. It will provide students and faculty access to essential study and reference materials related to standards and quality assurance. During the inauguration, Pramod Kumar Tiwari, the Director General of BIS, expressed his appreciation for the initiative and highlighted the pivotal role of standards in advancing research, innovation, and quality practices.
Tiwari commended the efforts of Prof. Ravi Prakash Tiwari, the BIS nodal officer at MNNIT, for his contributions towards promoting quality awareness within the institution. He also acknowledged the support of Prof. R S Verma, the director of MNNIT, in facilitating this initiative. Tiwari emphasized how this collaboration would strengthen the national quality ecosystem through enhanced academic cooperation and opportunities such as internships.
Inauguration Ceremony and Future Prospects
The inauguration ceremony of the BIS Student Chapter took place in the Seminar Hall, where the lighting of the lamp was performed by Prof. M M Gore and Prof. Shivesh Sharma. Prof. Shivesh Sharma, Dean of Research and Consultancy, welcomed the dignitaries and emphasized the importance of standards in both academic and research settings.
“The support provided by BIS to researchers is crucial in fostering a culture of quality-driven research and innovation,” Tiwari remarked during the event.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Ravi Prakash Tiwari, followed by an interactive Q&A session, group photography, and a high tea gathering. This initiative is expected to pave the way for new academic and research collaborations between BIS and MNNIT, ultimately inspiring students to engage in quality-driven research efforts.
The establishment of these facilities signifies a forward-looking approach to education, promoting a culture of excellence among students and faculty alike. By fostering collaboration between academic institutions and standard-setting organizations, both BIS and MNNIT aim to cultivate a new generation of quality-conscious professionals.
