Discover New Books and Authors at Mysuru’s Dasara Book Mela

The Dasara Book Mela in Mysuru is set to captivate book enthusiasts with a vibrant lineup of activities, running from September 22 to 30, 2023. Taking place at the Scouts and Guides ground, the event will operate daily from 10:00 AM to 8:30 PM, offering visitors not only a chance to purchase books at discounted rates but also to engage with authors through discussions and selfies.
Organized by the Mysuru Dasara Committee, in collaboration with the Department of Kannada and Culture, the event features prominent figures including Principal Secretary M V Venkatesh and Director K M Gayathri. The event will kick off with the unveiling of the book ‘Booker Banu’, celebrating the life and achievements of International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq, by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Chamundi Hill on September 22.
Daily Highlights and Author Interactions
The Mela promises engaging cultural programs and seminars every day at 4:30 PM. Each day will also feature book releases by a selection of 26 authors at 11:30 AM. The inauguration ceremony, led by Minister for Kannada and Culture Shivaraj Tangadagi, will take place on the same day at 5:00 PM.
Visitors can look forward to special events, including selfies with authors such as L N Mukundaraj and Vasudendra on September 23, alongside a panel discussion on Banu Mushtaq’s literary contributions. The following day, attendees can meet authors Sukanya Maruthi and Rajappa Dalawai, featuring a performance of traditional ‘bhava geethe’ by K V Prabha and his team.
On September 25, participants can interact with M N Narasimha Murthy and enjoy a poetry recital organized by various literary academies. Other notable events include selfies with Mallika Ganti on September 26, and appearances by actor Shankar Ashwath and students from Yuvaraja’s College on September 27.
Special Seminars and Cultural Programs
As the event progresses, visitors will have additional opportunities to take selfies with authors such as M Krishnegowda on September 28, followed by a performance of Rangageethes by members of the Vruksha Trust. The Mela will conclude on September 30 with a seminar on ‘Basavanna and Kanakadasaru’, featuring a discussion hosted by the ‘Santhakavi Kanakadasa matthu Thathvapadakaarara Adhyayana Kendra’, along with a final chance to meet T V Venkatachala Shasthri.
This year’s Dasara Book Mela promises to be an enriching experience for all attendees, combining literary appreciation with cultural celebration, all set against the picturesque backdrop of Mysuru.
