Himachal Pradesh Receives Rs 46-Crore Incentive for Rural Road Excellence
The Union Ministry of Rural Development has awarded Himachal Pradesh an incentive fund of Rs 46.12 crore for its exemplary performance in rural road construction. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced this recognition today, highlighting the state’s commitment to enhancing rural connectivity through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The funding acknowledges the quality and timeliness of road works completed under this significant initiative.
Minister Singh expressed gratitude to the Central Government for this formal acknowledgment, stating that the PMGSY has been instrumental in transforming rural infrastructure, particularly in hilly and remote regions. He emphasized the seriousness with which Himachal Pradesh has approached the implementation of PMGSY projects. The state has ensured that the construction, upgrading, and maintenance of roads meet the required standards and timelines, leading to this performance-based incentive.
Boosting Rural Development and Connectivity
Singh noted that this incentive would enhance ongoing efforts related to the improvement of rural roads, including strengthening pavements, cross-drainage structures, and safety upgrades in challenging areas. He pointed out that improved road access would significantly benefit farmers by providing better market opportunities, while also facilitating education, skill development, and employment for the youth. Furthermore, it will ensure safer and timely access to essential services such as schools and hospitals.
The minister stated, “Along with the projects sanctioned under PMGSY-III and PMGSY-IV, this incentive fund will further strengthen the state’s resolve to achieve the goal of good roads to every village and equitable development of every household.” In a geographically fragile state like Himachal Pradesh, roads serve as vital lifelines for development across multiple sectors, including health, education, agriculture, and tourism.
Singh underscored that ensuring all-weather, safe, and reliable rural roads remains a top priority for the state government. He commended the dedication of engineers, project units, and field formations within the PWD, who have successfully navigated challenges posed by steep terrain, landslides, and limited working seasons while maintaining high standards in road construction and maintenance.
This recognition from the Union Ministry not only highlights the achievements of Himachal Pradesh in rural infrastructure but also reinforces the ongoing commitment of the state to improve connectivity and foster equitable growth for its residents.
