The Haryana government has announced a substantial investment of ₹4,827 crore aimed at improving the state’s road infrastructure. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini launched the Pradeshik Sadak Utthan Pariyojna (Regional Road Upgradation Project) today, which will focus on the repair and upgrade of 4,227 roads spanning a total of 9,410 km during the current fiscal year.

Saini described the project as a “golden chapter” in the journey of Haryana’s infrastructure development. He emphasized its significance in bridging the gap between rural and urban areas, enhancing connectivity, and stimulating the state’s economic, social, and commercial growth. The Chief Minister noted that repair works on 410 roads have already commenced.

In his address, Saini reiterated the government’s commitment to accountability in infrastructure projects. He warned that strict measures would be enforced against contractors and officials who exhibit negligence, underlining that public funds must serve the public interest. He stated, “The project will lower transportation costs, reduce pollution, save fuel, and give a boost to both industry and agriculture.”

Looking back at the progress made in road and railway infrastructure over the past 11 years, Saini highlighted that 43,703 km of roads have been enhanced at a cost of ₹28,651 crore. Additionally, 2,417 km of new roads were constructed for ₹2,534 crore. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, an extra 2,432 km of roads were built at a cost of ₹1,077 crore.

The Chief Minister also mentioned the construction of 97 railway overbridges and underpasses, which cost approximately ₹2,000 crore over the same period. Furthermore, Saini revealed that 21 new national highways have been approved in Haryana, with 12 already completed. Once finished, every district in the state will have national highway access, which is expected to significantly improve transportation efficiency.

To facilitate smoother traffic flow, 27 toll barriers have been removed as part of the ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure. Public Works Minister Ranbir Gangwa confirmed that the initiative will upgrade all roads managed by the Public Works Department, Marketing Board, HSVP, HSIIDC, and other relevant agencies.

This ambitious project not only aims to modernize Haryana’s roadways but also seeks to foster sustainable development and improved living standards for its residents.
