Maharashtra Leaders Assess Flood Damage, Pledge Support for Farmers

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, visited flood-affected regions on Wednesday to assess the damage caused by severe rainfall. The leaders promised immediate relief for farmers impacted by the ongoing floods, which have created critical conditions in multiple areas across the state.

The visit began in Darfal village, located in the Solapur district, where CM Fadnavis evaluated the situation firsthand. According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), the state has been grappling with flood-like conditions due to persistent heavy rains, necessitating urgent rescue and relief operations.

In his remarks, Eknath Shinde assured the public that the government would extend all possible support to farmers affected by the rains. Shinde visited flood-impacted areas in the Dharashiv district of the Marathwada region, where he engaged with local farmers and residents. His interactions highlighted the immediate challenges faced by the communities in the wake of the floods.

In the past four days, unprecedented rains in the arid Marathwada region have led to at least eight fatalities, inundated numerous villages, and caused significant damage to homes and crops over more than 30,000 hectares, according to official reports. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed since Monday night to assist in relief efforts across Beed, Dharashiv, and Solapur districts.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also conducted a tour of the flood-stricken areas in Solapur, where he inspected the damage to crops and spoke directly with farmers to gain insights into their struggles. Pawar instructed local officials to provide immediate support and ensure a well-coordinated government response.

Pawar shared his observations on social media, stating, “I began my inspection of the flood situation from Korti in Karmala taluka. The continuous heavy rains have caused major damage to crops. I personally visited the fields and spoke with the farmers to understand the extent of the loss.” He emphasized the need for local authorities to plan thoroughly and implement relief measures swiftly.

In response to the ongoing crisis, the Maharashtra government announced a financial assistance package valued at Rs 1,339 crore. This initiative aims to compensate farmers who have suffered crop losses due to heavy rains between June and August 2025, as confirmed by government sources and reported by the Asian News International (ANI).

The government’s swift actions underscore its commitment to supporting the agricultural community amid challenging weather conditions. The collective visits and assurances from state leaders aim to restore hope and provide much-needed assistance to those affected in Maharashtra.
