The Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) recently hosted a workshop titled “Health Tech Disruption, Epigenetics, Startups & the Trillion $ Innovation Wave” on March 12, 2024. This event gathered students, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals to delve into the transformative potential of biotechnology within the health technology sector.
Leading the workshop was Shibashish Giri, the deputy head of Applied Stem Cell Biology and Cell Technology at Leipzig University in Germany. Giri is renowned for his groundbreaking research in epigenetics and endogenous stem cell applications. He presented his innovative work focused on identifying and reactivating local stem cells found in skin, hair, liver, heart, and brain tissues.
In his remarks, Prof Rihan Khan Suri, Director of the CIE, emphasized the workshop’s significance. He stated, “Our vision is to connect science, innovation and entrepreneurship. This workshop is a step towards enabling our students and innovators to translate cutting-edge research into scalable health solutions.”
The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical applications, highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship in translating innovative ideas into viable health technologies. Participants engaged in discussions that explored the intersection of science and business, reflecting the growing demand for advancements in health solutions.
This initiative aligns with JMI’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the entrepreneurial spirit among its students and researchers. By facilitating events like this, the university aims to inspire the next generation of health tech leaders and innovators.
As the health technology sector continues to evolve rapidly, workshops like this one play a crucial role in preparing participants to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The integration of biotechnology and entrepreneurial innovation stands to significantly impact the future of healthcare on a global scale.
