Amorim Names Bayindir as Starting Goalkeeper Against City

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will start in the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. This decision comes despite the club’s recent acquisition of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on Deadline Day, highlighting Amorim’s confidence in Bayindir’s capabilities in high-pressure situations.
Amorim’s Confidence in Bayindir
In a press conference held on Friday, Amorim stated, “Altay [Bayindir] is going to continue because we need to.” His choice to stick with Bayindir reflects a strong belief in the goalkeeper’s readiness for this critical match. Amorim emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly, saying, “This game is clear. Altay will start.” This marks a pivotal moment for Bayindir, who has the opportunity to solidify his position within the team.
The decision to start Bayindir follows the loan transfer of Andre Onana to Turkish club Trabzonspor. Onana’s departure came after a challenging start to the season, in which he struggled to maintain his position following a series of disappointing performances. Amorim acknowledged the need for change, stating, “For us, he could [have continued], but I think not just us as a club, but also Andre – I think we understood that this needed a change.”
Reflecting on Onana’s Departure
Amorim expressed sympathy for Onana’s struggles, noting that “bad luck in some moments was hard on him and the club.” He added, “Sometimes, it’s up to a point to why it’s not the performance, but it’s the moment.” He believes that a shift in the environment could help Onana regain his form, saying, “Sometimes you can have all the quality in the world, but sometimes you need to change the environment to return to your level.” Amorim extended his best wishes for Onana’s future.
As the season unfolds, Manchester United has had a mixed start, securing only one win from three Premier League matches (one draw and one loss). Following a defeat to Arsenal and a draw with Fulham, United managed to edge out Burnley with a 3-2 victory. Currently, the team sits in ninth place with four points.
In contrast, Manchester City began their campaign with a solid win against Wolverhampton but faced setbacks against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton. Pep Guardiola’s side is currently in thirteenth place, with three points. The upcoming clash between these two clubs promises to be a significant encounter as both teams look to improve their standings.
With Bayindir now under the spotlight, fans and analysts alike will be eager to see how he performs against a formidable City side. The match is set for Sunday, and its outcome could have implications for both teams as they strive to establish momentum in the league.
