The Pune city police revealed significant developments regarding the murder of Ayush Komkar, who was shot dead on September 5, 2024. Alleged shooters Yash Patil and Aman Pathan reportedly returned the firearms used in the crime to co-accused Krushna Andekar. Subsequently, Andekar provided them with two other pistols, which were later seized by police from Pathan. The firearms directly linked to the murder have not yet been recovered.

During proceedings at the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court, police presented Patil and another co-accused, Amit Patole, before Special Judge S. R. Salunkhe. The police sought an extension of Patil’s custody for an additional ten days while requesting judicial custody for Patole. The court granted judicial custody for both individuals until October 6.

Investigators informed the court that the suspects conducted firing practice in Nana Peth on August 29, a crucial detail that necessitates a spot investigation to assess the number of bullets fired during that session. The murder of 18-year-old Ayush occurred in the basement parking area of his residential building around 19:30 hours.

The motive behind the murder is believed to be retaliation for the killing of Bandu Andekar‘s son, Vanraj, a former corporator, on September 1, 2024. Special Public Prosecutor Vilas Patare asserted that four pistols were supplied to the assailants prior to the murder, indicating a premeditated plan that warrants thorough investigation.

In response, defence lawyer Manoj More argued that the police had ample time to investigate the claims regarding the pistols after Pathan’s arrest on September 9. Judge Salunkhe acknowledged this point, stating there was significant time for the investigation officer to explore all relevant aspects of the case.

As the case unfolds, authorities continue to grapple with the implications of organized crime in the region and the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
