The Sub-National Pulse Polio Campaign in Mumbai successfully administered polio vaccine doses to a total of 5,51,443 children aged zero to five on Sunday. This initiative aimed to protect young children from the debilitating disease, with a target to vaccinate all eligible beneficiaries within the city.

According to the city’s health department, the campaign reached a completion rate of 65.39%, with 8,43,294 children anticipated to be vaccinated. To ensure that the remaining children receive their vaccinations, a door-to-door campaign will take place from October 13 to 17, 2024. This intensive outreach effort is designed to achieve the goal of vaccinating 100 percent of the expected beneficiaries.

The previous Sub-National Pulse Polio Campaign, conducted on December 8, 2024, recorded a slightly higher completion rate of 65.66%. The health department is optimistic that the upcoming door-to-door campaign will enhance vaccination coverage and effectively reach the remaining children.

Polio remains a significant public health concern, and efforts like this campaign are crucial in preventing its resurgence. By mobilizing resources and community support, health officials aim to create a safer environment for children in Mumbai, ensuring they are protected against this preventable disease.
