Kher Transforms for Gandhi Role
Following their airport encounter, Kher is set to portray Mahatma Gandhi in the upcoming film The Bengal Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri. He shared that taking on this role has had a profound impact on him, fundamentally changing his perspective and inner self. Kher revealed that he achieved the look of Gandhi without the use of prosthetics, showcasing his commitment to authenticity in this portrayal.
On social media, Kher unveiled the motion poster of his character, depicting him in traditional Gandhi attire, complete with a white shawl, dhoti, and glasses, holding a wooden stick. He wrote, “Some roles change your thoughts, your habits, your inner self. Playing GandhiJi is one such role. Sharing it with you all for the first time my character from @vivekagnihotri’s #TheBengalFiles! No prosthetics was used here! Jai Hind!”
Upcoming Projects and Release Date
The Bengal Files is the third installment in Agnihotri’s acclaimed “Files” trilogy, following The Tashkent Files (2019) and The Kashmir Files (2022), in which Kher also appeared. This new film is scheduled for release in theatres on September 5, 2023. It features an ensemble cast, including Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar, and Saswata Chatterjee, among others.
