Surge in Sales of Study Materials Ahead of Board Exams in Ranchi
As the Class X and XII board examinations approach, bookstores in Ranchi are experiencing a notable increase in the sale of sample papers and reference books. This surge reflects students’ efforts to enhance their preparation and performance for these critical assessments. Local booksellers report that a growing number of students are opting for printed study materials in their quest for academic success.
Rohit Makkar, owner of New Vidyasagar, highlighted the rising demand for sample papers aligned with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) boards. He noted, “Students are predominantly purchasing sets from well-known publishers like Arihant, Edukart, and Oswaal, which offer solved papers, model test papers, and comprehensive question banks.” Makkar added that previous years’ question papers and reference guides are also flying off the shelves as students seek to bolster their confidence before the exams.
Despite the overall increase in demand, the trend is not uniform across all bookstores. Prakhar Lohia, owner of Ranchi Book Depot, provided a contrasting view. He reported that while there is still demand, sales are comparatively lower than in previous years. “Many students are now switching to online platforms for study materials. Additionally, some students and parents prefer pirated books due to their affordability, with the primary focus being on studying effectively,” Lohia explained.
As the exams draw nearer, local book dealers are gearing up for continued demand. Jaiprakash Sharma, a book dealer in the area, remarked, “As the exams approach, parents and students are leaving no stone unturned to ensure they are well-prepared. The trend of purchasing sample and reference books is expected to continue.”
Students express enthusiasm for these resources, recognizing their value in exam preparation. “Yes, I will buy sample papers and past year question papers for my Class 12 CBSE board exams. They really help in time management and understanding the marking scheme,” said Jiya Verma, a student at Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Bokaro.
The growing reliance on traditional study materials amidst the rise of digital resources reflects a broader trend in educational preparation. With board examinations set to commence in March 2024, students are increasingly prioritizing the acquisition of tools that will aid their readiness and performance. As the situation continues to evolve, the demand for sample papers and reference books in Ranchi is likely to remain strong.
