Police Dismantle Drug Peddler’s High-Tech Surveillance Operation

In a significant law enforcement operation, the Mohali Police dismantled a sophisticated surveillance network established by a drug peddler in Jagatpura village. The accused, identified as Bhagirath, created a mini “control room” at his residence, which included multiple CCTV cameras connected to a dedicated monitoring system. This setup allowed him to track police movements in real time, demonstrating the lengths to which drug traffickers are going to evade capture.

The police uncovered the extensive surveillance system during a raid that forms part of an ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks in the region. The CCTV network reportedly covered a radius of nearly 50 meters around Bhagirath’s home, providing him with a comprehensive view of all approach lanes. This enabled him to alert associates, conceal narcotics, and escape through hidden exits whenever police teams approached.

According to DSP Harsimran Singh Bal, who led the operation, “If he was smart, we are smarter. Despite CCTV surveillance, we nabbed them.” The authorities discovered a complete surveillance control room equipped with monitors displaying live footage from the surrounding area. The house itself was reportedly constructed using funds generated from drug trafficking, and police have since demolished the property.

The operation was supervised by DSP Bal, along with IT City SHO Periwinkle Singh Grewal and Sohana SHO Amandeep Singh. Bhagirath had previously faced multiple arrests and was implicated in several cases under the NDPS Act. Authorities revealed that he had been operating from this location for several months, indicating a sustained effort to maintain his drug supply operations.

The surveillance system is viewed by police as part of a broader strategy employed by traffickers to secure their illegal trade and stay ahead of law enforcement agencies. DSP Bal emphasized the police’s commitment to dismantling not only the criminal networks but also the economic foundations that allow such activities to flourish.
