China Constructs Fighter Jet Shelters Amid Border Talks with India
Tensions along the India-China border have escalated following revelations that China has constructed **36 shelters for fighter jets** near the **Arunachal Pradesh** border. This development comes at a time when both nations are engaged in diplomatic discussions regarding their long-standing border disputes.
The shelters have been built along the **Line of Actual Control (LAC)**, approximately **100 kilometers** from the Tawang area, an important strategic location. Observers have noted the contradiction in China’s approach, as it appears to be simultaneously negotiating with India while bolstering its military presence in the region. This duality has led to concerns about China’s intentions, with critics likening the situation to “having Ram in the mouth and a knife in the side.”
Indian Foreign Minister **S. Jaishankar** has described the relationship between India and China as “very complex,” highlighting the ongoing challenges in resolving the border conflict. As both countries navigate this intricate relationship, the recent military developments have raised alarms regarding regional stability.
Diplomatic Engagements Continue
Despite these tensions, diplomatic channels between the two nations remain active. According to a report by the **Times of India**, quoting **Reuters**, China’s Defense Ministry confirmed that India and China recently engaged in discussions focused on border-related issues. The two sides reportedly held “active and in-depth talks” regarding the control of the western section of the border.
The ministry’s statement underscored a mutual agreement to sustain communication through both military and diplomatic avenues. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson **Randhir Jaiswal** reiterated this commitment, emphasizing the importance of active communication between the two countries.
This diplomatic engagement follows the recent resumption of direct flights between **Kolkata** and **Guangzhou**, which restarted on **October 15, 2023**. This marked the first direct commercial connection between the two cities after a five-year hiatus, indicating a potential thaw in relations despite the ongoing border tensions.
As the situation continues to evolve, it remains essential for both nations to balance military readiness with diplomatic dialogue. The complexities of the India-China relationship underscore the challenges of fostering peace and stability in a region marked by historical disputes and strategic interests.
