Lieutenant Governor Sinha Orders Investigation Into Nowgam Blast Tragedy
A tragic explosion at the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in the deaths of at least nine individuals, including a State Investigation Agency (SIA) officer, a Naib Tehsildar, and a local tailor. The incident occurred on November 15, 2025, during the handling of seized explosives, according to local authorities.
In response to the disaster, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his profound sorrow for the lives lost. In a statement posted on social media platform X, he conveyed his condolences to the families affected. “I am deeply anguished by the loss of precious lives due to an extremely tragic accidental blast,” he stated. He emphasized that the government stands in solidarity with the grieving families and that all possible assistance is being provided to those impacted by the blast.
The Lieutenant Governor also announced the initiation of a formal investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. “I have ordered a probe to ascertain the cause of the accidental explosion,” he added, highlighting the government’s commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
Government and Community Response
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his condolences, extending heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. He stated, “I pray for the swift recovery of all those injured,” reflecting the collective grief felt across the region.
The tragic incident has left a significant impact on the local community, with 27 others reported injured. Emergency services have been mobilized to provide medical assistance to the victims. Local hospitals are treating those in need, and community support is being organized to assist families during this difficult time.
The investigation, led by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, aims to provide clarity on what led to the accidental explosion. The Directorate General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir has confirmed that the blast was accidental and occurred during the sampling of seized explosives, underscoring the risks associated with handling such materials.
As the community comes to terms with this tragedy, the focus remains on supporting the victims and their families. The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety and accountability in the handling of explosives and similar materials in the future.
