Bihar Election Commission Unveils Reforms Ahead of 2025 Assembly Polls

Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, announced on Sunday that the Bihar Assembly elections are set to occur before November 22, 2025, the expiration date of the current Assembly’s term. During a press briefing in Patna, he confirmed that preparations are underway for all 243 constituencies in the state, which includes two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs) and 38 for Scheduled Castes (SCs).

The Election Commission (EC) has recently concluded a two-day review visit to the state, assessing the electoral readiness. Kumar emphasized that for the first time, the Commission has completed training for booth-level officers, a significant step aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the electoral process.

Introduction of 17 Reforms

In a move to improve transparency and voter engagement, the Election Commission has introduced 17 reforms for the upcoming elections. Key among these is the implementation of color photographs on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), which is expected to assist voters in identifying their candidates more easily.
