Shreyas Iyer Recovers in Sydney After Hospitalization for Injury
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from a Sydney hospital after receiving treatment for a rib injury and internal bleeding sustained during a match against Australia. The vice-captain of the ODI team was injured while making a spectacular catch to dismiss Alex Carey, which resulted in a dive that caused significant damage. Following the incident, Iyer was hospitalized and required admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to address the internal bleeding linked to a laceration on his spleen.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on November 1, 2025, that Iyer had undergone a minor procedure. Although he has been discharged, he will remain in Sydney until he is fully fit to return home. A member of the BCCI medical team was present to assist in his treatment and recovery process.
In a recent social media update, Iyer reassured fans and well-wishers of his improving condition. Suryakumar Yadav, captain of the Indian T20I squad, also expressed optimism regarding Iyer’s recovery. Yadav humorously suggested that the team would bring the injured player back with them when they return home.
Initially, reports indicated that Iyer might face a three-week recovery period, with concerns around a possible hairline fracture in his rib. However, the situation has evolved due to the complications from internal bleeding, leading to an extended hospital stay.
As the Indian team prepares for the upcoming T20I series, they await Iyer’s full recovery. The team’s home ODI series is set to commence on November 30, 2025, following the conclusion of a two-match Test series. Iyer’s health and fitness will be closely monitored as the team looks to secure its performance in the upcoming matches.
