Cam Newton Critiques Eagles’ Offensive Coordinator After Losses

The Philadelphia Eagles have encountered significant challenges following their promising start to the season. After winning their first four games, the team has suffered back-to-back losses, first to the Denver Broncos and then to the New York Giants. The latest defeat, which took place on October 12, 2023, has intensified scrutiny of the Eagles’ offensive strategies and performance.
Criticism has increasingly focused on offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who is in his first year in this role. Following the loss to the Giants, many fans and analysts have expressed concerns over Patullo’s play-calling decisions. The Eagles’ offense currently ranks 29th in the NFL, averaging just 274.5 total yards per game after six weeks.
In a recent episode of “First Take,” former NFL quarterback Cam Newton weighed in on the issue. While he acknowledged that Jalen Hurts bears some responsibility for the team’s struggles, he suggested that the play-calling might be overwhelming for Patullo. Newton pointed out that last season, the Eagles thrived under the leadership of Kellen Moore, who maximized the potential of players like Saquon Barkley and Hurts. The transition to Patullo has not yielded similar results, raising questions about his ability to manage the offensive scheme effectively.
As the Eagles prepare for their next game against the Minnesota Vikings on October 15, 2023, the pressure will be on both Patullo and Hurts to improve. The Vikings’ defense has proven formidable this season, allowing an average of just 19.4 points per game. This matchup presents a critical opportunity for the Eagles to demonstrate their capability and for Patullo to refine his offensive strategies.
Despite the mounting criticism, Hurts has publicly defended Patullo, asserting that the offensive struggles cannot be solely attributed to the coordinator. As the season progresses, the effectiveness of Patullo’s game plans will be closely scrutinized, and the Eagles will need to address these issues swiftly to remain competitive in the playoff race.
With the next few weeks pivotal for the Eagles’ aspirations, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if the team can rebound from its recent performances and regain its early-season momentum.
