OUTR Launches Two Centres of Excellence by March 2024
The Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR) in Bhubaneswar is set to establish two new centres of excellence (CoEs) focused on design, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics, with operations expected to begin by March 2024. This initiative aims to enhance the university’s research capabilities and provide advanced educational opportunities for students and professionals.
According to Bibhuti Bhusan Biswal, vice-chancellor of OUTR, the university is committed to equipping its community with the skills necessary for today’s technological landscape. “We are in the process of installing laboratories, software, and essential equipment to ensure these CoEs meet global standards,” Biswal stated.
Focus Areas and Facilities
The CoE dedicated to design will concentrate on developing innovative designs for a diverse range of industrial products, including automobiles and refrigeration systems, as well as household items. The facility will feature a 40-seater laboratory, guiding participants from the initial concept stage through to final design validation. This comprehensive approach will foster a collaborative environment for students, educators, industry professionals, researchers, and interns.
“We have already acquired the necessary software for the design CoE,” Biswal noted. He emphasized the importance of design, stating, “Design is the backbone of production for both industrial and domestic products, and this centre will play a crucial role in shaping the future of product development.”
The second CoE will focus on AI and robotics, providing specialized training in these fields across various sectors, including industry and education. This initiative will be further supported by a collaboration with a Japanese company, which will assist in the establishment of the CoE and facilitate job placements for participants. Biswal highlighted that this partnership will ensure graduates are well-prepared for the demands of the modern workforce.
Significance for Odisha’s Technological Landscape
These centres represent a substantial investment in the future of technology and research in Odisha. They position OUTR as a leader in educational excellence and innovation, paving the way for advancements in design, AI, and robotics. Biswal remarked, “These CoEs are a significant step forward for both our institution and the region, contributing to the development of a skilled workforce that can meet the challenges of the future.”
As OUTR moves forward with these plans, the establishment of the CoEs will not only enhance research capabilities but also create valuable opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry, ultimately benefiting the broader community.
