The Namakkal district administration officially launched the two-day ‘Valvil Ori’ festival in the picturesque Kolli Hills on March 16, 2024. This annual event is part of the Aadi 18 celebrations and aims to showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage through various activities, including flower exhibitions and cultural performances.

Flower Displays and Cultural Activities

District Collector Durgamoorthi announced that the festival features an impressive array of approximately 50,000 flowers, including roses, gerberas, carnations, and jasmine. The horticulture department organized a flower show at the botanical garden, where visitors can admire floral structures and intricate rangoli designs.

Among the highlights of the flower show are floral representations of whimsical figures such as rabbits, unicorns, horses, mushrooms, deer, and monkeys. Inside the greenhouse, a stunning display of flowers has been artistically arranged, offering a vibrant sensory experience for attendees.

In addition to the floral exhibitions, the festival includes a variety of engaging activities. Dog shows, cookery competitions, and cultural programs featuring traditional dance performances are all part of the celebration. These events provide entertainment for visitors of all ages and contribute to the festive atmosphere of the occasion.

Community Engagement and Future Prospects

The ‘Valvil Ori’ festival not only serves as a platform for showcasing horticultural beauty but also fosters community engagement. Local residents and tourists alike have come together to celebrate the rich traditions of the region. As the festival continues to evolve, organizers hope to attract even more participants and visitors in the coming years.

With its vibrant displays and engaging activities, the festival in Kolli Hills is poised to become a highlight of the region’s cultural calendar, drawing attention from both local and international visitors. The successful start this year sets a promising precedent for future editions of the ‘Valvil Ori’ festival.
