Tripura CM Condemns Alleged TIPRA Motha Attack on BJP Workers

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has condemned an alleged attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers by members of the TIPRA Motha Party. The incident occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, on March 15, 2024, in Asharambari, located in Khowai district. CM Saha described the actions of the TIPRA Motha workers as “disgraceful” and emphasized that such violence would not be tolerated.
In a statement shared on his social media account, Saha denounced the “violent and undemocratic attack” on BJP members. He reported that several BJP workers were injured during the incident, with three requiring treatment at GB Hospital. Saha visited the hospital to ensure that the injured received adequate medical care. “I instructed doctors to provide the best care and directed police to take strict action against the perpetrators,” he stated.
The attack reportedly involved over 50 individuals associated with the TIPRA Motha Party, who arrived armed with sharp weapons and began hurling bricks and bottles at BJP workers. Jayanta Debbarma, the BJP Mandal President, stated that the assailants vandalized multiple vehicles, including 15 motorcycles. He expressed outrage, saying, “They vandalized my vehicle and also attacked the owner of the house where the Mann Ki Baat program was organized.”
During his hospital visit, CM Saha remarked on the long-standing issue of violence in Tripura’s political landscape. “We have been seeing bloodshed and violence in politics in Tripura for many years. The Prime Minister wants calm and quiet politics, but today crossed all limits,” he said. Saha highlighted that the BJP workers were peacefully listening to the broadcast when the attack occurred at booth number 30 in Asharambari.
Debbarma confirmed that six BJP workers sustained injuries, some of which were severe, with reports of head, mouth, and chest injuries. The situation has raised concerns about the ongoing political climate in the region, with Saha asserting that such tactics of intimidation through violence will not succeed in Tripura.
The incident has sparked discussions about political safety and the need for a more peaceful discourse among party members in the state. As the investigation unfolds, the BJP has called for accountability and stronger measures to ensure the protection of its workers.
