Telangana Cabinet Prepares for Local Body Elections on November 25

The government of Telangana is set to convene its Cabinet on November 25, 2023, at the Secretariat in Hyderabad. Chaired by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, the meeting will focus on several critical issues, including the approval for the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct local body elections. Sources indicate that, pending Cabinet approval, the SEC is prepared to announce the election schedule on November 27, 2023.

Key topics for discussion during the Cabinet meeting will also include matters related to the Yadadri Temple Development Authority (YTDA) and preparations for the upcoming Telangana Raising – Global Summit, scheduled for December 8 and 9, 2023. Furthermore, proposals aimed at strengthening the Energy department are on the agenda.

Officials have noted that Cabinet ministers have expressed their support for a report submitted by the Dedicated Commission. This Commission was established to evaluate the socio-economic challenges facing Backward Classes. It is reported that the Commission’s recommendations align with the Supreme Court’s guidelines, which stipulate that reservations should not exceed a ceiling of 50%.

In anticipation of the local body elections, the state government is expected to provide an update to the high court during the next hearing set for November 24, 2023.
