Inquiry Launched into Controversial Pune Land Deal Involving Ajit Pawar’s Son
Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar confirmed on Sunday that an investigation is underway regarding the sale of government land in Pune, which is linked to his son, Parth Pawar. The inquiry aims to uncover the truth behind the alleged illegal sale of 40 acres of government land in the Mundhwa area, which was reportedly sold for Rs 300 crore to Amadea Enterprises, a company in which Parth is a partner.
During a press conference in Baramati, Ajit Pawar stated that the Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has appointed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter. He emphasized that all details regarding the transaction would be revealed within a month. Two First Information Reports (FIRs) have already been filed in connection with the land sale, though Parth Pawar has not been named as an accused.
Ajit Pawar expressed confusion over how the transaction was processed, questioning, “I still don’t understand how a document can be registered without a transaction of even one rupee.” He assured reporters that the inquiry would clarify the situation. Additionally, he called for strict action against any associates or relatives who might misuse his name to circumvent regulations.
The controversy surrounding the land deal intensified following allegations from opposition leaders, who claim that the market value of the land is closer to Rs 1,800 crore. They argue that the sale lacked the necessary government permissions. Ajit Pawar reiterated that his son was unaware that the land purchased by Amadea Enterprises was government-owned.
The sale deed for the land has since been cancelled, but the company is expected to pay approximately Rs 42 crore in double stamp duty to formalize the cancellation. Fadnavis has assured the public that the case is being managed strictly according to the law, stating, “There is no question of saving anyone.”
Earlier, Ajit Pawar described the transaction as “completely beyond understanding,” highlighting concerns about the registration process. He remarked that upon reviewing the documents, the first question that arose was how the registrar approved the transaction in the first place. The Deputy Chief Minister has ordered a detailed investigation into the matter to ensure transparency and accountability.
As the inquiry progresses, the political ramifications of this land deal continue to unfold, raising significant questions about governance and propriety in land transactions in Maharashtra.
