Police Detain Man for Sharing Morphed Photos, Personal Data Online
A 32-year-old man has been detained by the Nanded City Police for allegedly uploading morphed photographs and the cellphone number of a 24-year-old woman on a social media platform. The incident began when the woman, who recently got married, received numerous unsolicited and obscene calls, prompting her to file a complaint with the Chandannagar Police on October 6, 2023.
The police report indicates that the woman had been living in the Nanded Phata area before her marriage about eight days prior to the complaint. Following her marriage, she relocated to Chandannagar to live with her husband. As a housewife, she was not expecting to be targeted in this manner.
According to police officials, the detained man and the woman had previously shared a close friendship. An officer explained, “The suspect was upset after she married another man. He decided to teach her a lesson by sharing her morphed photographs, along with her phone number, on the site.” Following the publication of her images, the woman began receiving multiple calls, which led her to investigate further on social media.
Upon discovering her altered photos online, the woman promptly reported the situation to the authorities. The First Information Report (FIR) was subsequently forwarded to the Nanded City Police for further investigation on October 8, 2023. This incident highlights the growing concern over cyber harassment and the misuse of personal information on social media.
The Nanded City Police have not disclosed the identity of the detained individual, as investigations are ongoing. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of safeguarding personal data and taking necessary actions against those who misuse technology for harassment. This case serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of social media and the urgent need for greater awareness of online privacy.
As the investigation progresses, police encourage victims of similar incidents to come forward and seek assistance. Cyber harassment is increasingly recognized as a serious issue, and law enforcement agencies are working to address it effectively.
