Kundapura Students Launch HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign Through Performance
In an innovative effort to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, students from Moodlakatte Nursing College (MCN) in Kundapura organized a vibrant flash mob and street play on October 11. This initiative aimed to educate the public about the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention and the services offered by the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC).
The campaign was a collaborative effort involving several local organizations, including the Udupi District Administration, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the Indian Red Cross Society, and the Sunrise Rotary Club of Kundapura. The event took place in a public space to maximize outreach and engagement with community members.
Event Highlights and Participation
The program was officially inaugurated by cutting a ribbon, led by Dr Chandra Marakal, the administrative medical officer at the Taluk Government Hospital in Kundapura. The event featured a lively performance that captivated the audience, effectively conveying messages about HIV/AIDS awareness.
Nalinakshi, the ICTC counsellor for Kundapura, served as the event’s compere and expressed gratitude to all involved during the closing remarks. The event attracted notable guests, including Dr Premananda, the Taluk Health Officer; Jayakar Shetty, President of the Red Cross Society Kundapura; Gururaj, a representative from the Rotary Club Sunrise Kundapura; Dr Karuna, ART Officer in Kundapura; Jennifer Freed Menezes, Principal of Moodlakatte Nursing College; and Srikanth Rao from the Sahay Nidhi Club.
Objectives and Impact
The primary goal of the campaign was to increase local awareness regarding ICTC services and the importance of regular HIV testing. The performances were designed not only to entertain but also to educate the audience about the realities of living with HIV and the stigma often associated with it.
By utilizing engaging performances, the students of MCN demonstrated their commitment to health education and community service. This initiative highlights the ongoing efforts to combat misinformation about HIV/AIDS and promote healthier lifestyles within the community. The event has been lauded as a significant step towards fostering a more informed and supportive environment for those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Overall, the collaboration among various local organizations and the enthusiasm of the students contributed to a successful awareness campaign that resonates with the community’s health priorities.
