An employee has raised concerns over workplace insensitivity after revealing that their manager insisted they attend the office during a family crisis. The situation unfolded on Reddit, where the individual shared a screenshot of a conversation with their manager regarding their inability to work due to a family emergency involving a newborn.

In the post, the employee explained that they had joined the organization as a fresh recruit in January and had consistently demonstrated dedication by maintaining an exemplary attendance record and delivering strong performance. Despite facing a series of urgent family issues, including the serious condition of their newborn, the manager appeared to overlook the emotional strain the employee was experiencing.

In a WhatsApp exchange, the employee apologized for missing a call and detailed the gravity of their situation, stating, “Actually, our baby is in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and will be under observation for the next 24 hours. I will not be able to come tomorrow as well!” The manager responded with a dismissive “okay, beta” followed by a brief acknowledgment, but then suggested, “But if there is any possibility to come tomorrow, then please try for it.”

The employee expressed frustration over this response, highlighting their commitment to the job and the lack of support during a critical time. They stated, “Zero unplanned leaves, no break exceeds, on point performance and this is what I get in return when I needed to be eased! I just lost my grandmother a few days back and had my niece on August 30! She is premature and needed to be put under observation today!”

Feeling unsupported, the employee indicated their intention to seek other job opportunities, stating, “I am done with this place and now going to look for other opportunities as soon as I can!!”

The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with many users expressing outrage at the manager’s lack of empathy. Comments on the post included sentiments such as, “What even will happen if someone misses a deadline? Nothing. Focus on your wife and kid,” emphasizing the need for greater understanding of personal challenges in the workplace.

This incident highlights the ongoing discussions about mental health and the critical importance of supportive workplace environments, especially during personal crises. Employees are increasingly advocating for empathy and understanding from management, which is essential for fostering a healthy work atmosphere.
