Countdown Begins for IISF 2025 with Inspiring Launch Event

The India International Science Festival (IISF) 2025 commenced its countdown on October 3, 2023, with an engaging curtain-raiser event held at the CSIR–National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) in Bengaluru. This event, organized under the JIGYASA Programme, aimed to foster a scientific mindset among students, teachers, and science enthusiasts.

During the keynote address, delivered by Krishna Kumar M, a retired principal research scientist from the Centre for Electronics Design and Technology (CEDT) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the focus was on encouraging curiosity. Kumar stressed the importance of understanding the “why” behind everyday phenomena. He shared insights from his extensive experience, highlighting that science extends beyond textbooks and is integral to solving real-world challenges.

Kumar’s message resonated with attendees as he urged students to observe their surroundings critically and to engage in experimentation. He recounted inspiring anecdotes where simple inquiries led to significant scientific advancements, reinforcing the idea that curiosity is a powerful catalyst for innovation.

Hands-On Learning Experiences

The event included visits to several notable facilities within CSIR-NAL, showcasing cutting-edge research and technology.

At the flight simulator facility, students experienced the fundamentals of aircraft control and simulation-based engineering. This hands-on approach allowed them to grasp essential principles of aerospace technology.

Another highlight was the DRISHTI project, which focuses on indigenous technologies developed to enhance runway visibility. Participants learned how these innovations contribute to aviation safety and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the advanced composites division provided insights into the application of modern materials in aerospace structures. Students observed how lightweight components are designed to improve aircraft performance while maintaining safety standards.

As the countdown to IISF 2025 continues, the enthusiasm generated during this event underscores the festival’s mission to inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators.
