Couple’s Family Expands Dramatically with Quadruplets Surprise

Maxine and Jake Young, a couple from Reading, Pennsylvania, have experienced a remarkable turn of events in their family life. Already parents to five children, including four adopted siblings and one biological son, they were taken by surprise when a routine pregnancy revealed an extraordinary outcome: quadruplets.
In 2019, Maxine learned she was pregnant again after a home pregnancy test showed an unusually strong positive result. When she visited her doctor, the high levels of hCG, a hormone associated with pregnancy, led medical professionals to suspect the possibility of twins. However, the ultrasound examination unveiled a shocking reality.
Jake Young took to Instagram to share the couple’s journey, stating, “When Maxine became pregnant, we were thrilled — but the hCG levels were through the roof. We thought we might be having twins… but the reality was far more surprising.” During the six-week scan, Maxine texted Jake from the doctor’s office with the shocking news: “You’re going to be shocked!” After Jake’s inquisitive response, she revealed, “There are three babies. Triplets!” Jake recalled his immediate reaction: “I couldn’t breathe for two and a half minutes.”
The surprises did not end there. A few weeks later, another scan revealed even more unexpected news. Maxine informed Jake via text, “They found another one. Quadruplets!” Their experience was documented in a social media reel, which quickly gained millions of views. Jake expressed the joy of their expanding family: “Our family grew from seven to eleven!”
From Adoption to Natural Pregnancy
Maxine (30) and Jake (32) married in 2016 and initially faced challenges in conceiving children. They turned to foster care, ultimately adopting four siblings: Joel (now 10), Jude (8), Jace (6), and Josh (4). In 2019, they welcomed their biological son, Jesse (now 5). Maxine’s subsequent pregnancy was unexpected and occurred naturally, leading to a rare case of hyperovulation. This condition, in which a woman releases multiple eggs, is estimated to occur in only 1 in 70 million pregnancies.
Due to the inherent risks associated with carrying quadruplets, Maxine was placed on bed rest and underwent regular medical check-ups throughout her pregnancy. Jake shared his thoughts on the situation: “We tried to be mentally prepared, but quadruplets? It was unbelievable.”
A Dramatic Delivery
On April 30, 2020, Maxine underwent an emergency C-section at Reading Hospital at just 30 weeks into her pregnancy. She gave birth to two daughters, Isla (weighing 2.2 lbs) and Elina (2.1 lbs), and two sons, Rylen (2.3 lbs) and Deven (2.4 lbs). All four children were born prematurely and required care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for ten weeks. Fortunately, all four babies are now thriving and doing well.
The Young family’s story highlights the unpredictability of life and the joys that can come from unexpected circumstances. As they continue to navigate the challenges of raising a large family, Jake and Maxine reflect on their remarkable journey and the love that binds them together.
