Bhumi Pednekar Opens Up on Body Image and Self-Love Journey

In a candid interview, actress Bhumi Pednekar addressed the challenges she faces regarding body image and the impact of online trolling. The actress, known for her role in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, emphasized the importance of self-love and mental well-being while reflecting on her journey in the public eye.
Speaking with Hindustan Times, Bhumi shared her thoughts on overcoming body image issues. She acknowledged the societal pressures that often accompany being in the entertainment industry, stating, “I feel that doesn’t ever go right. That’s because we have grown up in an environment where we were subjected to different kinds of comments. But you have to learn to love yourself, and that’s a process.”
The actress has openly discussed her struggles and triumphs regarding her physical appearance. Bhumi explained, “It has taken me a lot of time, and I still have days where I feel heartbroken about things. But the point is that I have a routine that keeps me in check.” She highlighted that her approach to health encompasses both physical and mental aspects, asserting, “It’s just not about how you look externally.”
Emphasizing Self-Love and Mental Clarity
Bhumi elaborated on her fitness journey, noting that being active is crucial for her mental clarity. “Every time I am in a workout routine, I’m spending a lot of time telling myself that I’m doing this for my body. I’m doing this because I have to be the fittest. I want to live longer,” she remarked. For her, exercise is more than just a physical activity; it is a means to nurture her inner self.
Reflecting on her past experiences, Bhumi mentioned the weight she gained for her role in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, where she tipped the scales at 96 kg. She acknowledged that public opinion fluctuates with her appearance. “The thing is that I have seen both ends of the spectrum. There was a time when I was 96 kg, and there were opinions then. Now, I look different, and there are opinions now,” she noted. Despite the scrutiny, Bhumi remains resolute, stating, “I am for the audience. Everything that they say I listen to, but by the end of it, I do what’s right for me.”
Future Projects and Continued Advocacy
On the professional front, Bhumi is set to star in the upcoming series Daldal, which will be available on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, she mentioned that the second season of The Royals is also in development, promising more engaging content for her fans.
As Bhumi Pednekar continues her career, her journey serves as an inspiration for many, reminding them of the importance of self-acceptance and mental health. Her openness about personal struggles encourages dialogue around body positivity and the impact of societal expectations, reinforcing that self-love is a continuous journey.
