Indian Series “Gandhi” Premieres at Toronto International Film Festival

The Indian series Gandhi, produced by Applause Entertainment, is set to make history as the first Indian OTT series to be featured at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2025. Directed by Hansal Mehta, this significant selection highlights the growing impact of Indian storytelling on a global scale.
The series will premiere under TIFF’s prestigious Primetime Programme, which showcases long-form storytelling from around the world. This marks a pivotal moment for Indian series in international media, as Gandhi becomes the first to receive such an invitation.
In an exclusive interview, Pratik Gandhi, who portrays Mahatma Gandhi, expressed his excitement about the project. “It’s a big milestone and a matter of pride for us to represent India in the world forum,” he stated. “It is India’s first series to be showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival, and I feel it’s a complete ‘made in India for the world’ series. It’s even more special for me as it’s my first ever screen collaboration with my wife Bhamini, who is playing Kasturba. Our hearts are full of gratitude.”
This achievement not only underscores the creative talents within India but also indicates a shift in the global perception of Indian content. The selection of Gandhi at TIFF is expected to pave the way for more Indian narratives to be told on international platforms.
The festival, scheduled for September 2025, will serve as a crucial venue for the series to gain visibility among a diverse audience. As the world continues to embrace streaming and digital content, Gandhi stands at the forefront of this evolution, representing Indian culture and history on a major global stage.
The anticipation surrounding the premiere is palpable, as audiences await a depiction that promises to resonate with both Indian and international viewers. With its significant cultural themes and personal stories, Gandhi is poised to leave a lasting impression at TIFF and beyond.
