Western Railway has launched its Swachhata Pakhwada 2025 from October 1 to 15, 2025, focused on enhancing cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental awareness across various railway facilities. The initiative aims to promote a cleaner environment in stations, offices, workshops, and trains. Following the initial activities, the campaign intensified with specific efforts on Swachh Parisar and Swachh Aahar during the eighth and ninth days.

On October 8, 2025, significant cleanliness and fumigation drives were conducted in railway offices, colonies, waiting rooms, rest houses, and dormitories to enhance sanitation standards. According to a press release from Vineet Abhishek, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, over 70 awareness campaigns on the segregation of dry and wet waste were organized for passengers and local residents. A public participation drive saw over 500 individuals actively involved in cleaning efforts within railway colonies. Additionally, plantation and landscaping activities were executed at approximately 50 stations and colonies to beautify the premises.

The following day, October 9, shifted the focus to Swachh Aahar, emphasizing food hygiene across railway premises. Officers, along with the Chief Health Inspector, conducted rigorous inspections at around 100 food stalls, carts, cloud kitchens, and storage areas to ensure compliance with cleanliness and hygienic food handling practices. More than 200 canteen staff, including bearers, cooks, and food vendors, underwent medical and hygiene check-ups to promote health and safety standards.

Surprise inspections were carried out in running rooms, rest houses, and canteens to evaluate utensil cleaning procedures, garbage disposal systems, and overall hygiene. Food samples were collected from various stalls and catering units for quality checks, ensuring adherence to food safety regulations.

As part of the broader Swachhata Pakhwada initiative, Western Railway’s extensive cleanliness and awareness drives aim to improve sanitation and promote safe food practices. The active engagement of the public in these initiatives highlights the commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all railway users.
