Vande Bharat Express Set to Link Varanasi and Khajuraho
The Indian railway network is set to enhance connectivity in the Bundelkhand region with the introduction of the new Vande Bharat Express. This semi high-speed train will connect Varanasi and Khajuraho, passing through Banda, significantly reducing travel time from the current duration of 9 to 12 hours to approximately 6 to 7 hours. The proposal received formal approval from Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and the timetable has been confirmed.
The new service is a part of the Indian government’s initiative to modernize rail transport and promote tourism in key heritage locations. Currently, the only express trains servicing Banda include the Mahakaushal Express, Chambal Express, Tulsi Express, and UP Sampark Kranti, which connect the region to major cities like Delhi, Gwalior, Prayagraj, and Jhansi.
Improved Travel Experience
Railway officials have indicated that the infrastructure along the route is nearing completion, with upgrades being made to the train’s facilities to support speeds of up to 160 km/h. This advancement not only emphasizes comfort but also aims to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. The new Vande Bharat service is expected to facilitate easier access to significant cultural sites, including Khajuraho, Chitrakoot, and Varanasi.
According to the provisional timetable, the Khajuraho–Varanasi Vande Bharat Express is scheduled to depart Khajuraho at 15:20, making several key stops along the way. It will reach Mahoba at 16:00, Banda at 17:13, Chitrakoot Dham at 18:13, and arrive at Prayagraj Chheoki at 20:20. The train is set to reach Varanasi by 23:00. On its return journey, the train will leave Varanasi at 06:10, with stops at Vindhyachal, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Banda, and Mahoba, arriving back in Khajuraho at 13:10.
Official Statements and Future Prospects
While the ministry has issued the approval letter and timetable, the exact date for the commencement of services has not yet been confirmed. Manoj Kumar Singh, public relations officer for the North Central Railway in the Jhansi Division, stated, “The ministry’s approval letter and timetable have been issued, but we cannot confirm the exact commencement date yet.”
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express is anticipated to not only improve the transport landscape in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh but also to stimulate local economies by boosting tourism. As work on the route continues, stakeholders remain optimistic about the potential benefits for residents and visitors alike.
