KCR Accuses Congress of Prioritizing Real Estate Over Development
Former Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president K. Chandrashekar Rao has publicly criticized the current Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Congress government, accusing them of prioritizing real estate interests over substantive development. During a press conference at the BRS headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, on October 1, 2023, Rao expressed his discontent regarding the abandonment of the significant Pharma City project, a key initiative launched by his previous administration.
During his remarks, Rao referred to the recent Telangana Rising summit held at Bharat Future City, where he dismissed the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) that claimed investments worth lakhs of crores as largely meaningless. “If this was true, then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu should have had at least a few thousand crores invested there after he held a similar event in his first term. Growth happens in stages, with dedicated and hard work by the government,” he stated.
Rao voiced particular concern about the Congress government’s decision to abandon the Pharma City initiative while simultaneously unveiling the Future City project on the same 14,000 acres of land earmarked by the BRS for a comprehensive pharmaceutical hub. “We planned a clean pharma city, a pharma university, and a medical college, creating a complete ecosystem. Now, this CM has signed a MoU giving away 3,000 acres to Vantara for a zoo. What is he going to do with the zoo in Hyderabad? Sell away its land?” he questioned.
The former Chief Minister emphasized that the Congress administration was acting like real estate brokers, focusing primarily on land sales rather than meaningful development. “Its entire focus is on real estate business,” he remarked, underscoring his belief that the government’s actions reflect a lack of commitment to genuine growth for the state.
Rao’s comments come at a time when discussions about development and investment in Telangana are increasingly critical. His statements aim to rally support for the BRS and highlight what he perceives as failures of the current administration in fostering a robust economic environment.
The exchange of accusations between the two political leaders illustrates the ongoing tensions in Telangana’s political landscape, as parties vie for control and influence over the state’s future direction.
