GHMC Initiates Modernization of Jiyaguda Slaughterhouse

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is set to modernize the Jiyaguda slaughterhouse in the Karwan area to enhance hygiene and operational efficiency. This decision follows a detailed inspection led by GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on March 15, 2024, where he highlighted the urgent need for improvements to existing facilities.
During the inspection, Commissioner Karnan was joined by several key officials, including Zonal Commissioner Anuraag Jayanthi, Chief Engineer (Maintenance) Sahadev Rathnakar, and Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Abdul Wakil. The team evaluated the current infrastructure and identified critical areas for enhancement.
Karnan outlined a comprehensive plan to upgrade the slaughterhouse to meet modern standards. He instructed GHMC project engineers to expedite the modernization process, focusing on better monitoring mechanisms and compliance with hygiene protocols.
Emphasizing public health, Karnan stressed the importance of strict adherence to sanitary measures. He ordered the immediate removal of debris and Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste from the slaughterhouse premises to ensure a cleaner and safer environment for both workers and the local community.
The modernization initiative is part of GHMC’s broader efforts to improve urban infrastructure and public health standards across Hyderabad. By elevating the operational capabilities of the Jiyaguda slaughterhouse, the GHMC aims to set a benchmark for hygiene and efficiency in meat processing facilities throughout the region.
This modernization project is expected to have a significant positive impact on the local community, promoting safer food practices and enhancing the overall quality of services provided by the slaughterhouse. As the project progresses, further updates will be released to inform the public of improvements and completion timelines.
