K Rammohan Naidu, the Minister of Civil Aviation, officially inaugurated the newly renovated Terminal 2 (T2) at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Saturday. The terminal, which had been closed since April 2023 for extensive upgrades, is set to resume domestic flight operations starting Sunday.

T2, originally built four decades ago, has undergone significant renovations to enhance its capacity and improve passenger experience. With the capability to handle over 100 million passengers annually, the terminal will now facilitate around 120 daily domestic flights operated by major airlines, including Air India and IndiGo.

State-of-the-Art Facilities Enhance Passenger Experience

The upgrades at Terminal 2 include a range of modern facilities designed to streamline airport operations. Among the notable features are self baggage-drop counters that expedite check-in processes, six advanced passenger boarding bridges for efficient boarding, and DigiYatra facial recognition services that enhance security while speeding up passenger flow.

Additionally, a virtual information desk and high-resolution flight displays have been installed to assist travelers with real-time information. The renovations also addressed airside and apron areas, improving aircraft handling and ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers.

The inauguration of T2 represents a significant milestone for IGIA, which continues to adapt to the growing demands of air travel in India. The enhanced terminal is expected to play a crucial role in accommodating the increasing number of domestic flights and passengers in the coming years.

Minister Naidu, during the inauguration, emphasized the importance of modernizing airport infrastructure to meet international standards. He noted that the improvements at T2 will not only enhance operational efficiency but also provide travelers with a more comfortable and convenient experience.

As operations resume, passengers can look forward to utilizing the advanced features of the newly refurbished terminal, marking a new chapter for air travel at one of the busiest airports in the country.
