Deputy Chief Minister Supports Rain-Affected Families with Land Allocations

Jammu and Kashmir’s Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, announced significant support for families affected by recent heavy rains, including the allocation of five Marla plots on stable land. During an extensive inspection of the impacted areas on September 7, 2023, Choudhary engaged with displaced families in regions such as Rah, Saylote, Pargwal, Barkhal, Malabala, and Narsingh Pura. This initiative aims to provide a long-term solution as the region grapples with the aftermath of severe weather events.
Choudhary emphasized the necessity of conducting a comprehensive geological audit to pinpoint vulnerable zones susceptible to disasters like cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods. This assessment will inform future preventive measures to mitigate risks associated with extreme weather conditions.
Earlier in the day, the Deputy Chief Minister visited the Kangri Panchayat in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri District, where he met with a family mourning the recent loss of a mother and daughter due to a wall collapse. In a gesture of support, he distributed relief cheques totaling Rs 4 lakh from the Chief Minister Relief Fund. Choudhary expressed his condolences, assuring the bereaved family that the government stands firm in its commitment to assist them during this difficult time.
In addition to his outreach efforts, the Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the extensive damages caused by the recent rains and landslides. He instructed officials to expedite the distribution of aid and the restoration of essential infrastructure. Choudhary, along with cabinet minister Satish Sharma and National Conference Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta, listened to the concerns of the affected population, addressing issues related to drainage, road safety, and embankments.
“This is a difficult time for our people, but I assure you that no family will be left unattended,” Sharma stated. He highlighted the government’s commitment to providing relief and restoring essential services to support affected households in rebuilding their lives. Furthermore, he called on the Public Works and Rural Development Departments to prioritize the urgent restoration of damaged roads and culverts to ensure smooth connectivity for relief efforts.
Later, the Deputy Chief Minister and his colleagues extended their condolences to the family of Krishan Lal at Chowki Choura, who lost four family members during the Chisoti cloudburst on August 14. They conveyed messages of support on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, reinforcing the government’s pledge to assist those impacted by the disaster.
Choudhary assured the public that he would personally oversee the progress of relief and rehabilitation efforts, reaffirming the government’s dedication to addressing the needs of affected communities. The ongoing support aims not only to provide immediate relief but also to foster resilience against future weather-related challenges.
