Boney Kapoor Takes Legal Action Over Sridevi’s Chennai Property
Film producer Boney Kapoor has initiated legal proceedings in the Madras High Court concerning a property dispute linked to his late wife, renowned actress Sridevi. Kapoor lodged a petition alleging that three individuals are unlawfully claiming rights to a Chennai property that Sridevi acquired in 1988.
In his court filing, Kapoor provided details about the property’s history, stating that Sridevi purchased it on April 19, 1988, from M.C. Sambanda Mudaliar. Mudaliar, who had three sons and two daughters, had previously reached a mutual arrangement with his family in February 1960 regarding the division of their estate. This agreement facilitated Sridevi’s acquisition of the property.
Recently, three individuals have come forward, asserting their rights over the estate. Among them is a woman who claims to be the second wife of one of Mudaliar’s sons. The other two individuals are her sons. Boney Kapoor’s legal argument hinges on the assertion that the woman’s marriage to Mudaliar’s son, which she claims occurred on February 5, 1975, is invalid, as Mudaliar’s first wife reportedly passed away on June 24, 1999.
Kapoor raised concerns about the legitimacy of a legal heirship certificate issued to the claimants in 2005, questioning the jurisdiction of the revenue official who authorized it. He has requested that the court revoke the certificate, arguing that it was fraudulently obtained and is being misused to assert claims over Sridevi’s property.
Madras High Court Ruling
Upon reviewing Kapoor’s plea, Justice N. Anand Venkatesh ordered the Tambaram Taluk Tahsildar to make a decision regarding the matter within four weeks. The court directed the cancellation of the 2005 legal heirship certificate, which Kapoor contends was issued under false pretenses.
As the legal proceedings continue, the case has garnered significant attention not only for its intricate legal aspects but also for the emotional connection it holds. Sridevi remains a beloved figure in Indian cinema, and her untimely passing in 2018 continues to resonate with fans around the world.
The implications of this dispute extend beyond legal considerations, touching on the legacy of one of India’s most cherished film icons. As the situation develops, it is certain to evoke strong sentiments among her admirers, highlighting the enduring impact of her life and career.
