The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) executed a significant cleanliness campaign in the Khandagiri Bari area on the morning of October 15, 2023. This initiative aimed to elevate community hygiene and sanitation, attracting participation from various local leaders and residents.

Community Engagement Drives Cleanliness Efforts

The cleanliness drive featured prominent figures including BMC Mayor Sulochana Das, standing committee chairperson Biranchi Narayan Mahasupakar, and corporator Kiran Bala Majhi. They were joined by local residents and sanitation teams who actively engaged in the campaign. The event unfolded under the theme ‘Har Ghar Tiranga, Har Ghar Swachhata’, which translates to ‘Every Home a Flag, Every Home Cleanliness’, embodying the spirit of collective responsibility.

During the campaign, participants undertook various activities such as wall-to-wall sweeping, spraying mosquito repellent oil, cleaning drainage systems, and repairing streetlights. Residents from localities K8, K4, and K5 participated enthusiastically, offering their support and expressing appreciation for the initiative. Senior citizens at the event noted that such community-led efforts are not only effective but also serve as motivation for others.

Leadership and Future Initiatives

Following the Khandagiri Bari activities, BMC staff and sanitation workers extended their efforts to the area near SUM Hospital. The drive included notable attendees such as former corporator Dillip Majhi, additional commissioner Ratnakar Sahu, and deputy commissioner N Ganesh Babu, all of whom contributed to the campaign’s visibility and success.

During the event, Mayor Sulochana Das expressed her satisfaction with the public turnout and highlighted the collaborative efforts between BMC’s sanitation division and local community members. She noted, “Public participation is key to sustainable cleanliness, and it’s heartening to see such enthusiasm.”

The BMC’s ongoing sanitation drives not only aim to enhance cleanliness but also foster community engagement. By reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility, these initiatives contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment in Bhubaneswar.
