Puducherry Government Disburses Financial Aid to Medical, Nursing Students
The government of Puducherry has initiated the disbursement of the fourth instalment of financial assistance under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme (PKFAS). This initiative targets medical and nursing students who were admitted through the counselling process of the Centralised Admission Committee for the academic year 2021-2022. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy inaugurated the distribution during an event at the Legislative Assembly on Monday, marking a significant step in supporting the education of students in the Union Territory.
During the event, Chief Minister Rangasamy announced that a total of ₹3.14 crores has been allocated for the fourth instalment of tuition fee assistance. This financial support will benefit approximately 134 medical students and 165 nursing students. The government has committed to a broader financial framework, earmarking ₹27 crore for students enrolled through Centac in the upcoming academic years 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and 2024-2025.
Expanded Support for Arts and Science Students
In addition to the assistance for medical and nursing students, Rangasamy revealed plans to extend the financial aid scheme to include Arts and Science students. A sum of ₹34 crore will be allocated in the Revised Estimate for the current budget for this purpose. This expansion demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing educational support across various disciplines.
The Chief Minister also mentioned an initiative to distribute free laptops to remaining students in Classes 11 and 12. He noted that the tendering process for the procurement of laptops has been completed and distribution would commence shortly, benefiting over 15,000 students.
In response to questions regarding the emergence of new political parties and their criticisms of the AINRC-BJP government, Rangasamy acknowledged the right to form political entities. He stated, “Everyone has the right to form parties, but ultimately, people will decide who is doing service to them. I will respond to the criticisms at the appropriate time.” The Chief Minister also dismissed any reports of internal friction between his party, the AINRC, and its alliance partner, the BJP.
As the Puducherry government continues to enhance educational resources and support for its students, the focus remains on ensuring that financial assistance reaches those in need and that educational opportunities are expanded across the region.
