In a significant announcement ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections set for 2025, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan declared that his party intends to claim the Deputy Chief Minister’s position if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerges victorious. Speaking in an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Paswan clarified that while he advocates for his party’s recognition, he has no intention of personally assuming the role.

Paswan emphasized his commitment to his responsibilities at the Centre, particularly in the food processing sector, which he described as having “tremendous potential.” He stated, “I have always believed my strike rate has been close to 100 percent, and I expect the same this time. I am confident my party will win all 29 seats it is contesting.” He further articulated that if the LJP is successful, they would indeed expect a Deputy Chief Minister position, underscoring the importance of mutual respect within the alliance.

Political Landscape and Future Aspirations

Looking towards the future, Paswan expressed his ambitions for the 2030 Bihar elections, indicating he would enter this political contest from a stronger position. “Whether I contest as the Chief Ministerial face or not, that decision will be taken in 2029,” he noted, suggesting a strategic outlook on his political career.

In his critique of the opposition alliance, which includes prominent figures like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, Paswan dismissed their collaboration as disorganized. “I don’t understand what makes them a strong pair. Rahul Gandhi came to Bihar once and disappeared. The Mahagathbandhan lacks unity; it’s a friendly fight at best,” he remarked, casting doubt on their effectiveness in the upcoming elections.

Support for NDA Leadership

Reaffirming his loyalty to the NDA, Paswan expressed strong support for current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stating that within the alliance, it is clear Kumar will remain the leader. He mentioned, “Amit Shah respected the alliance process by not announcing any name, but everyone agrees Nitish ji will be the Chief Minister,” indicating a consensus among NDA partners regarding Kumar’s leadership.

On a personal note, the 41-year-old minister addressed questions regarding his marital status, humorously asserting that marriage is not a priority at this moment. “Now isn’t the time. I won’t be getting married anytime soon, as I’ve been entrusted with major responsibilities,” he added, reflecting his focus on political duties.

As the Bihar Assembly elections approach, Paswan’s statements signal a determined effort by the LJP to solidify its position within the NDA and assert its influence in the state’s governance. With a clear vision for the future, he aims to play a pivotal role in shaping Bihar’s political landscape.
