NCP Uncovers 12,000 Duplicate Voters in Bhosari Assembly Seat
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar, has announced the discovery of approximately 12,000 duplicate voters in the Bhosari Assembly constituency. This revelation comes as the NCP continues to scrutinize the voters’ list ahead of upcoming elections, raising concerns about voter integrity in the region.
NCP leader Ajit Gavhane reported the findings to The Indian Express, detailing the rigorous process the party undertook to identify these duplicate entries. “These duplicate voters are traced through their names, the names of their family members, and the photos,” Gavhane explained. He emphasized that this extensive verification effort is crucial in ensuring a fair electoral process. The party has successfully identified duplicate names in just four of the prabhags, or localities, within the constituency, but believes there could be over 100,000 repeat voters overall.
In an effort to rectify this situation, the NCP has submitted the names of the duplicate voters, along with supporting documentation, to the election office at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters. This move is particularly timely as the region prepares for municipal corporation elections, where the accuracy of the voters’ list will play a significant role.
Gavhane, who ran for the 2024 Assembly election in Bhosari on an NCP-Samajwadi Party ticket, faced defeat against BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, losing by a margin of 63,765 votes. Despite this setback, the NCP remains focused on addressing electoral discrepancies that could affect future voting outcomes.
Adding to the complexity, Rohit Pawar, an NCP-SP MLA, claimed that around 54,660 individuals listed as voters in other Pune constituencies are also registered in the Chinchwad Assembly constituency. This assertion was echoed by a local social organization that presented similar data to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
The implications of these findings are significant for the electoral landscape in Maharashtra, particularly as the NCP and its allies seek to challenge the dominance of the BJP in the region. The removal of duplicate voters, if verified, could enhance the legitimacy of the electoral process and ensure that every vote counts in the upcoming elections.
As the NCP continues its campaign against electoral fraud, the spotlight remains on the integrity of the voters’ list. The outcome of these efforts could have lasting effects on the political dynamics within the Bhosari Assembly constituency and beyond.
