Punjab Court Denies Bail to ‘Instagram Queen’ Constable Amandeep Kaur

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has denied bail to Punjab Police constable Amandeep Kaur, who gained notoriety as the ‘Instagram queen’ due to her lavish lifestyle. The court’s decision, issued on May 26, 2023, comes amid serious allegations of corruption that have raised concerns about public trust in law enforcement.
In its ruling, the court emphasized the gravity of the charges against Kaur, noting that they warrant significant scrutiny, especially given her position as a serving police officer. Justice Manjari Nehru Kaul, who presided over the case, stated that the nature of the allegations, combined with Kaur’s involvement in other criminal matters, necessitates a thorough investigation that could be compromised if she were to be released on bail.
The court found that evidence presented, including a financial analysis chart submitted with the First Information Report (FIR), indicates a substantial increase in Kaur’s wealth that appears unjustified during the examination period from April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2025. The judge dismissed Kaur’s defense arguments regarding the legitimacy of checks performed during this period, stating they lacked persuasive merit.
Kaur’s defense team argued that her income derived from brand endorsements and social media monetization. However, Justice Kaul noted that these claims were not substantiated by credible evidence. The court pointed out that Kaur’s financial inflows were inconsistent with her official income, raising further red flags about her financial activities.
The ruling also highlighted Kaur’s previous involvement in two other criminal cases, one being under the NDPS Act, which contributed to the court’s decision to deny bail. Kaur has already faced dismissal from her position in the Punjab Police as a result of these allegations.
In summary, the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision reflects serious concerns about corruption and public trust within law enforcement, reinforcing the necessity of accountability in positions of power. As the investigation continues, the implications of Kaur’s actions and the broader impacts on the Punjab Police remain under close scrutiny.
