Garba Celebration Disrupted by Egg-Throwing Incident in Thane
A festive Garba celebration in Thane was abruptly interrupted on the evening of October 1, 2023, when a resident allegedly threw eggs from an upper floor of a housing complex, leading to considerable unrest among attendees. The incident unfolded between 22:30 and 23:00 local time as the traditional dance was taking place on the grounds of the society in the Kashigaon area.
According to police reports, the suspect, a resident of the same housing complex, had been observed prior to the incident attempting to halt the cultural festivities. A police official stated that the individual had been seen checking the decibel levels and filming the event with a mobile phone. The suspect had reportedly made several calls to the police, expressing concerns over noise levels related to the Garba celebration.
At approximately 22:50, witnesses reported seeing the suspect allegedly throwing objects from the 16th floor. A broken egg was subsequently discovered near two police personnel present at the scene. This provocation incited a strong reaction from local residents, who swiftly made their way to the Kashigaon police station demanding stringent action against the individual responsible.
In response to the escalating situation, additional police forces were deployed to the complex to maintain public order. The authorities registered a case against the suspect under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 300, which pertains to voluntarily causing disturbance to any assembly lawfully engaged in religious worship or ceremonies. As of now, no arrests have been made, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
The disruption of the Garba celebration not only highlights tensions within the community but also raises questions about the balance between cultural events and residential peace. Local residents continue to advocate for a resolution that respects both their traditions and the concerns of all parties involved.
