Air quality in New Delhi showed a minor improvement on the morning of October 24, 2023, transitioning from the very poor to the poor category. The city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 290, indicating a shift, although certain areas still experienced severe conditions. Notably, Anand Vihar reported an AQI of 403, the highest among all monitoring stations, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data available via the Sameer app.

The CPCB categorizes air quality based on AQI values: an index ranging from 0 to 50 is deemed “good,” 51 to 100 “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 “moderate,” 201 to 300 “poor,” 301 to 400 “very poor,” and values between 401 and 500 “severe.” On this day, fifteen monitoring stations reported AQI levels in the very poor category, while the remaining stations fell under the poor category.

Weather Conditions and Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the minimum temperature in the city settled at 17 degrees Celsius, which is 0.2 degrees below normal for this time of year. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 32 degrees Celsius later in the day. Residents can anticipate mist during the morning hours, followed by a mainly clear sky as the day progresses.

Despite the slight improvement in air quality, the ongoing challenges of pollution in New Delhi continue to pose significant health risks. Authorities are urged to implement effective measures to combat air quality deterioration, particularly as the city approaches the winter months when pollution levels typically rise.
