Bihar Assembly Elections: 27.65% Turnout Recorded by 11 AM
The first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections is underway, with voter turnout recorded at 27.65% by 11 AM on November 6, 2023, according to the Election Commission of India. This initial phase has attracted considerable attention, with 16 delegations from seven foreign countries observing the electoral process, highlighting the importance of these elections.
Delegations from countries including Indonesia, Colombia, the Philippines, France, Belgium, South Africa, and Thailand are in Bihar as part of the International Electors Visitor Program, which aims to promote transparency and best practices in the democratic process. As part of this initiative, a delegation from Thailand visited a polling booth in Patna to gain insights into the voting arrangements.
The Election Commission has implemented extensive measures to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process. This phase marks an important step in the democratic journey of Bihar, as voters participate in shaping their legislative assembly.
In a separate but significant development, Qatar Airways announced its decision to sell its stake in Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways in a share buyback valued at $896 million. This move marks the end of the Qatari carrier’s eight-year involvement with Cathay Pacific, a decision confirmed by the airline late on Wednesday. Following the announcement, Cathay Pacific’s shares saw an increase of 4.2% on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Thursday.
As the voting continues throughout the day, the focus remains on the turnout and the overall conduct of the elections, which are critical for the political landscape in Bihar. The participation of international delegations adds an extra layer of scrutiny, reflecting the global interest in India’s democratic processes.
