Train Services Disrupted Again by Landslide in Koraput Area

Train services along the Koraput–Kirandul rail route faced a significant disruption on Thursday afternoon due to a landslide. Boulders tumbled down from a hill near the Maliguda station, obstructing the tracks for approximately three hours. This marks the second such incident in less than a week, following a similar occurrence on October 19, 2023.

The latest landslide happened near the 210-kilometre mark between Maliguda and Jarati stations, part of the Koraput–Jeypore section. A passenger train, bound for Kirandul, was halted at Jarati station, while the Rourkela Intercity Express, traveling from Jagdalpur towards Koraput, was stopped at Maliguda station.

Upon receiving notification of the blockage, a rescue team from the Koraput station promptly responded. They worked to clear the rocks and debris from the tracks, allowing train movement to resume normally after the cleanup. Station master Balaram Muduli confirmed that services returned to their regular schedule following the incident.

Railway officials are monitoring the area closely to prevent future disruptions, which could significantly impact travel in this region of India. Passengers and freight services alike rely on this vital transport route, making the swift resolution of such incidents critical.
