Gani Bhai Leads Unique Inauguration of Students’ Union in Malappuram
The inauguration of the Students’ Union at Melmuri Priyadarshini College in Malappuram took a distinctive approach this year as Gyanendra Rajbanshi, affectionately known as Gani Bhai, was chosen to officiate the ceremony. Rajbanshi, who serves as the college’s night watchman and canteen chef, has dedicated 12 years to the institution and has become a beloved figure among the students.
The event attracted significant attention, with notable attendees including College Manager Samad Mankada and Union Chairman M Muhammad Sahal. Other speakers included K Gokuldas, P Athira, P Rajeesh, C Subeesh, and Devanand, each contributing to the celebration of student leadership and community spirit.
Rajbanshi, hailing from Jogesh Vardhi in Bardhaman district, West Bengal, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to inaugurate the union. His long-standing association with the college has fostered a connection with the students, who regard him not just as a staff member but as a mentor and friend.
The inauguration marks an important milestone in the college’s calendar, symbolizing the empowerment of student voices and the establishment of leadership roles within the academic community. In his address, Mankada highlighted the significance of the Students’ Union, stating, “This platform provides students with the opportunity to express their ideas and concerns. It is essential for fostering a vibrant academic environment.”
