The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has confirmed that the board examinations for Class X and Class XII for the 2025–26 academic year will commence on February 17, 2026. This announcement marks a significant shift in examination structure, particularly for Class X, which will feature two board exams for the first time. This change aligns with the recommendations set forth by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

In a circular released on Thursday, the board emphasized that this initiative is designed to alleviate academic pressure on students. By providing multiple opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge, CBSE aims to enhance student performance and overall learning experiences. This early announcement, made 110 days prior to the exams, is the earliest in CBSE history, allowing students, parents, and educational institutions ample time to prepare.

CBSE’s timely release of the date sheet was facilitated by the prompt submission of registration details from affiliated schools. Previously, a tentative schedule was shared on September 24, based on initial registration data. The finalized date sheet, developed after receiving comprehensive information on subject combinations, ensures that no student will face overlapping exam dates.

In organizing the exam schedule, CBSE also took into account the entrance examination timelines for Class XII students, ensuring adequate gaps between papers. Both the Class X and Class XII exams will commence at 10:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST). The board stated that the early release of the timetable will not only help students in planning their study schedules effectively but also contribute to reducing exam-related anxiety.

Additionally, CBSE has directed schools to provide Class XI registration numbers to students applying for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Main), to avoid any scheduling conflicts between the entrance exams and board examinations. Students and schools can access the detailed date sheets for both classes on the official CBSE website, www.cbse.gov.in.

This proactive approach by CBSE illustrates a commitment to improving educational outcomes and supporting students during a critical phase of their academic careers.
