Roston Chase Urges West Indies to Rally Ahead of Decisive Test

West Indies captain Roston Chase has called for a shift in mindset among his players ahead of the second Test against Team India. The West Indies team seeks to recover from a heavy defeat in the first match of the series, where they lost by an innings and 140 runs. Chase acknowledged the team’s struggles and emphasized the need for a more positive approach moving forward.
In a press conference, Chase reflected on the disappointing performance in the first Test, where the West Indies managed scores of just 162 and 146 runs. He identified a lack of strong individual performances, with Justin Greaves and Alick Athanaze as the only players to score over 30 runs in either innings. “We are down right now, but it has to change at some point,” Chase stated. “The change can start from now, and it begins with the belief and the mindset of each and every player.”
Chase conveyed confidence in his team’s abilities, stating that the players are not lacking in self-assurance. “It just takes one good innings, one hundred or a big fifty, to spark confidence,” he said. He reiterated the importance of starting strong as a batting unit, adding that it is crucial for them to absorb pressure from the Indian bowlers and return with aggressive scoring.
The second Test match is scheduled to begin on July 7, 2023, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The West Indies are eager to level the two-match series, and Chase is determined to motivate his team to perform at their best. “We just need to get that start and kick on. And we’ll be fine,” he concluded.
As the West Indies prepare for this decisive clash, the squad includes players such as John Campbell, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, and Shai Hope. The team will be looking to turn their fortunes around and put on a competitive display against a formidable Indian side led by Shubman Gill.
