Newcastle United Prepares for 2025-26 Season Amid Transfer Woes

Newcastle United enters the 2025-26 Premier League season facing significant challenges. The club has struggled in the transfer market, failing to secure several key targets while star player Alexander Isak has expressed a desire to leave. So far, Newcastle has welcomed only three new players: winger Anthony Elanga for £55 million, center-back Malick Thiaw at £34 million, and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on loan. The team’s preparations have been further complicated by injury concerns and limited squad depth.
Manager Eddie Howe faces a crucial period as Isak’s future remains uncertain. The Swedish striker was instrumental last season, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists, helping propel Newcastle into the Champions League. Isak’s performance will be vital if the team hopes to maintain its position in the top five of the Premier League standings.
As the season opener against Aston Villa approaches, Howe’s tactical setup is expected to follow a 4-3-3 formation. This strategy relies on a combination of solid midfielders and quick attackers. The midfield trio is likely to include Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, and Sandro Tonali, providing a robust foundation for the team.
In the attack, Anthony Gordon is anticipated to return from an ankle injury in time for the match against Villa. Alongside Gordon, Elanga and Isak are expected to lead the front line. The inclusion of academy prospect Park Seung-soo could offer additional depth, although he is likely to initially serve as backup.
The upcoming season presents a crucial test for Newcastle United, as they aim to build on last year’s success while navigating the challenges of a competitive transfer market and maintaining squad harmony. The performance of Isak, in particular, will likely play a decisive role in the club’s ambitions this season.
