India Dominates Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025, Claims Ninth Title
India’s cricket team triumphed over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, winning the title for a record-extending ninth time. The Men in Blue faced their arch-rivals three times during the tournament, securing victories in both the group stage and the Super 4 stage. The final match, held on September 30, 2025, showcased India’s resilience, as they overcame a challenging situation to clinch a thrilling last-over win.
Former Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder, Ravi Bopara, commented on the significant disparity in mentality and skill between the two teams. He noted that while India has been dominant, winning every match against Pakistan since 2022, the Indian squad views other top-ranked nations such as Australia, England, and South Africa as their primary rivals. This perspective highlights a shift in competitive focus for the Indian team, according to Bopara.
Throughout the Asia Cup, India’s performance outshone that of Pakistan in all departments. In a notable group stage match, Pakistan faltered dramatically, collapsing to be bowled out for just 146 runs after initially reaching 113 for 2. This inability to handle pressure and capitalize on key moments resulted in yet another defeat for the Salman Ali Agha-led side.
The Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav, emphasized that there was no real rivalry against Pakistan during the tournament. His sentiments were echoed by batter Tilak Varma, who reaffirmed the team’s focus on competing with the best rather than solely fixating on their traditional rivals. This new mindset may signal a broader evolution within Indian cricket, as they continue to establish themselves as a formidable force in the international arena.
As India shifts its focus to the longest format of the game, they are set to begin their home season with a two-match Test series against the West Indies. The series is scheduled to commence on October 2, 2025, led by captain Shubman Gill.
The Asia Cup 2025 has not only reinforced India’s cricketing prowess but has also raised questions about Pakistan’s strategy moving forward. Under the guidance of head coach Mike Hesson, the Pakistani team faces challenges in adapting to the demands of the shorter format, leaving them to reassess their approach as they aim for improvement in upcoming competitions.
